• Waves were hot on the runways this spring, in part due to fashion's ‘70s flashback. If you have medium to long hair you can definitely rock this look. Sexy, natural-looking, tousled strands look awesome on any face shape and can go with a multitude of dress style of dress styles. Pull one side back with a pretty hair ornament and you’re good to go.

• Braids are the current "cool girl" style. They look fantastic and are easy to wear. A perfect French braid is safe, but a messy sides-wept braid has attitude and can add a uniqueness to your look by adding hair bling (gems glued to hair) or feathers.

• Natural hair. Girls with curlier hair or dreadlocks can choose from a variety of styles, as well. Pinups, twists, braids and weaves are all great options.

Ready to buy your prom dress? Or maybe you have plans to have someone else create your own prom dress, but you have no idea what size you are in a prom dress and what your measurements are. We’re here to help.

How do you go about taking measurements for your prom dresses? It’s a lot easier than you think and it’s a good way to learn how for future reference (wedding dress?!).

Before we get started, you will need a tape measure, the long fabric tape measure you see tailors wear around their neck! You can get one from most drugstores in a sewing kit, or at a fabric store.

When you are ready to begin, you will need to identify several key points for measuring out your future prom dresses.

The first of these points is just above the bust. This is one place in which your prom dress should be at least a tiny bit fitted and you should make an effort to make sure that this part fits the best it can. Measure right under your arm pits.

Next, you need to measure your waist and around the bust. Measure around the largest part of your breasts for the bust and around where your bellybutton is for the waist.

While the waist may be the last measurement that you need, it can vary depending on the style of formal dresses that you prefer.

For example, if you want a formal dress with a fitted skirt such as many of the fit and flair styles shown this year, then you will need the measurements of your hips and also your legs.

Tip #1 – Be Appropriate

We recommend asking upperclassmen, who have been to your particular school’s homecoming dance, what to wear. Find out if your school has a theme, however, if it makes it harder to find a homecoming dress that fits your school’s theme, try not to stress out, it is not always necessary to go along with it. Finding a homecoming dress that you're comfortable in and that isn't too fussy is key.

Remember, you want a formal dress that you can dance in without worrying that it will fall down or come undone. Some homecoming attendees have told us that wearing a short to mid-length little black dress, accessorized with no more than a single strand pearl necklace, was the easiest, most safe and always appropriate way to go to homecoming, however little this may cause you to stand out, it is an old standby.
